The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has partnered with Thames Water to form a new £5m scheme to help create a network of hundreds of free public water fountains across busy areas of London. The scheme aims to encourage people to refill their water bottles rather than to buy bottled water and thus reduce single-use plastic waste.
The average adult in London buys some 175 bottles per year. Across the UK some 7.7bn plastic bottles are bought across the UK each year.
